I hope you are having a really good day, my friend.

Since I have not met a potential romantic partner in the SCA in mumble years, I recently went back online using yet another online dating service.

A couple of years ago I met a fellow who wasn't very interesting but liked to dance. The dancing went on for a few months but ended rather abruptly when he decided that dancing with me wasn't enough. I plain did not share his enthusiasm for getting more intimate.

This week after many emails back and forth, I was scheduled to meet two (yes 2) men in two days from okcupid. One chickened out the day before we were to get together, and from the way he runs hot then cold my impression is that he's not ready to meet a woman quite yet. But the other man took me out to dinner Friday and then Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. We both had a really good time and will be getting together again soon.

Oh what fun! Again!

Aasa and I spelled each other on the drive South. We were both really tired and swapped out whenever the one driving said she couldn't drive any more. I only went to 2 parties this year. I did find some lovely gray silk/wool that will become a cotehardie. And I purchased a cooking pot big enough to hold 2 game hens. Otherwise I was very good.

I made Sent Sovi garlic cheese sauce and spit cake (with almonds, dates and dried apricots). And for new things, I roasted game hens, finished them the next day in their own drippings, and prepared rice using the drippings Fried ling cod in lard; Didn't get the onion sauce made. Made my first cheesy goo and apple tansie. My drunk raisins were quite the success.

Everything we ate was yummy. I admit that I did not try the frog pie, but I have had frog before and I was just plain full at the time it was offered.

Why I didn't gain more than 1/2 pound is a mystery to me.

Several years ago I had a baking disaster in my mom's kitchen in Georgia, following a recipe (for biscuits, if you must know) that worked perfectly in California. I had a nasty puddle of wet flour instead of biscuit dough and threw the mess out. There I was, using ordinary all purpose flour in each case, but I got different results. My conclusion was that somehow all purpose flour sold in Georgia is formulated differently than all purpose flour sold in California. Was my guess correct? I don't know (yet).

So I have just started a project to record what the flour sellers reveal about their products and see if I can find a pattern that tells me what is going on with the different flours, at least the white ones. I rarely use whole wheat and I am not really interested in it.

I know that the wheat germ is removed when white flour is made. Some flours are bleached, some are enriched, etc. What does enriched actually entail? What difference does bleaching really make other than color?

When I'm done, at a minimum I expect to know which flour can be safely substituted for another. I'll keep you posted.

I went to a housewarming party yesterday for a couple I am friends with, and what with the interesting conversations and such, left there at 10:30. My had been to spend 3 hours at this party and then go onto JT's in Sunnyvale. Considering the time and how much of a drive it would be to get to JT's, I decided against it.

Good to know that his party went well. Happy birthday again to a great guy.

I just got off the phone with a woman who was seeking donations for women who have had breast cancer and are in financial difficulties. I informed her that I am a survivor and I should be on the receiving end of this.

She hung up on me without any verbal response.

I guess that charity won't be calling me again.

Today I got in touch with several recruiters who contacted me recently to make sure that they weren't waiting for me to respond to anything. Done.

My cellphone is - as always - a slightly different model from the previous one. I'm getting better at making it do what I want. But I may make another trip back to the Verizon store in the next couple of days if I cannot figure out some things.

I'm back on the wagon of being careful what I eat. The 2 pounds of celebratory weight is nearly gone. The weight loss will continue until I can get in those size 10 jeans. Since I can't put any weight or stress on my left arm, it seems pointless to go to the gym right now.

This has been a week I hope will not repeat itself.

On Tuesday I prepared for the new fridge by pulling out the old one and cleaning the floor under/behind it (for the first time in 16 years). You can guess how much dirt that was. Early Wednesday I brought my coolers in from the garage and filled them with food. The new fridge was in place by 10:00 am and I then tried to figure out how to put everything into the new. Of course it was configured quite differently from the old but everything fit. I miss the ice maker already. Once I am working again I will buy an ice maker.

My plan for Wednesday afternoon was to get a new battery for my aging cellphone but that had to be postponed because my computer wasn't working - at all. A friend loaned me a used monitor and that didn't help. He came over Wed evening and could not find the problem. So I spent most of Thursday at another friend's house and she determined that the newly borrowed monitor did not work. So off to Frys to spend money for a new monitor.

Friday morning Verizon told me that my cellphone battery was not removable/ replaceable. But it has been 2 years, so I got a new phone. In the afternoon I was putting computer parts and cables together and could not find the power cord for the modem, so the local AT&T store sold me a new power cord. That didn't solve the problem so on Saturday instead of going to A&S I bought a new modem and kept fiddling with computer cables. Saturday evening I was on the phone for close to an hour with a very nice AT&T support guy but could not get the modem registered.

Just now a different geeky friend came over and I am back on line - finally. If I wasn't job hunting this would not have been so stressful.

My hands are better, but not back to normal. Maybe over the next week I can think about taking care of the swelling in my left wrist.

For about 6 weeks now I have had trouble with my hands, and in particular, my left wrist.

About two weeks ago my practitioner reset my wrists, which made everything better, but not back to normal. The swelling has not gone away. At all. I will call the practitioner tomorrow and discuss this.

Just now a good friend came over and massaged my hands, arms, shoulders and back. Now I am relaxed enough to figure out that a large part of the difficulty and pain has been caused by the tension I have been carrying around.

I need to get back to work very soon. A job will relax me like nothing else could.
